Relay for Life

For those of you that have never experienced an American Cancer Society Relay for Life, you should!  It is a life changing 24 hours.  It is a time to celebrate and support the lives of survivors, remember those that have lost their fight, and fight back against cancer.

This year, for the first time I was a part of the Gratiot County Relay Committee, as well as being a co-captain for Team SOAR.
This is myself, my niece Theresa, and my mom. My "baby" sister was not there, like she normally is, but it was great to have Theresa there to take part in the celebration of life with us.  It was a rainy day, and we were moved inside, but we still had a great turnout.

Unfortunately, this is the first year that we had to Relay without our Beloved Casee.  I didn't have the strength to make her a luminary bag, but while I was walking I had the inspiration to paint a piggy in honor of Casee.

This is the luminary bag that I made this year for my mom. I unfortunately just don't have the heart to make them for anyone else. With Casee gone, it has taken some of the wind out of my sails about relay. It is not that I believe less, the pain and anger is just too fresh.

Regardless of that, I cannot let myself forget that my mom is still here. She IS a survivor, which is what we celebrate!

Relay starts in just a couple of hours and the forecast is for rain, rain, and some more rain! But that will not stop us!
